The State Trading Organization (STO) has reduced the prices of onions and potatoes starting today, as part of efforts to ease the cost of living during Ramadan.
In a statement, STO said the price reductions were introduced to support the public, noting that onions and potatoes are among the most commonly used food items during the holy month.
The company also highlighted its continued efforts to control and maintain the prices of essential goods. STO added that it is working to ensure a steady supply of imports so that there will be no shortages in the market.
According to the revised pricing, onions have been reduced from MVR 12 per kilogram to MVR 10 per kilogram. The price of a sack of onions has also been lowered from MVR 250 to MVR 190.
Similarly, potatoes have been reduced from MVR 14 per kilogram to MVR 12 per kilogram, while a sack of potatoes has been cut from MVR 300 to MVR 160.
STO said retail sales will be available through STO People’s Choice outlets, while wholesale quantities will be sold from the STO Wholesale Centre.
