Maldives visitor arrivals cross 1.8 million but remain below 2025

International visitor arrivals to the Maldives have crossed 1.8 million so far in 2026, although the total remains below the level recorded during the corresponding period last year.

The latest tourism statistics place total arrivals at 1,803,749, around 3% lower than the 1,858,995 recorded during the same period in 2025.

The Maldives recorded 190,774 tourist arrivals in October, up 0.2% from 190,445 in the same month last year.

Including business travellers and cruise passengers, total international visitor arrivals in October reached 194,039, representing growth of 0.9% year-on-year.

Tourist arrivals during the first ten months of the year stood at 1,762,751, down 3.5% from 1,826,934 during the corresponding period of 2025.

China remained the Maldives’ largest tourism source market, with 332,186 arrivals according to the latest available figures, followed by Russia with 258,120. The United Kingdom ranked third with 136,527 arrivals.

The latest figures show that arrivals have begun to improve as the Maldives enters the peak tourism period, although the cumulative total has yet to recover the shortfall recorded earlier in the year.

The Government has set a target of 2.5 million tourist arrivals for 2027 under Visit Maldives Year, which was officially unveiled this week at World Travel Market London.
