Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) says 115 hectares of land have been reclaimed at Giraavaru Falhu, representing 68.8 percent of the planned 167.15 hectares.
In an update on November 4, MACL said reclamation was making steady progress, with the Queen of the Netherlands dredger continuing to play a key role in the work. A further 52.15 hectares remain to be reclaimed.
The project forms part of efforts to ease housing shortages in the Greater Malé region. Under the revised land-use plan, 4,072 residential plots are to be allocated at Giraavaru Falhu.
Reclamation work under MACL began on January 30, 2026. The company was assigned to reclaim 97.15 hectares during the project’s second phase.
MACL expanded its infrastructure operations by establishing Peninsula Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary, in October 2025. The subsidiary was formed to undertake reclamation and construction projects, broadening the airport operator’s involvement in infrastructure development.
