The first of 20 agricultural nurseries planned under efforts to strengthen food security has been established in Addu Meedhoo, according to Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam.
The minister made the remarks while participating in a “Grow With Ooredoo” tree-planting activity held in collaboration with Ooredoo Maldives and Addu Meedhoo Council as part of activities marking National Farmers Day and World Food Day.
Shiyam said the government is working through the programme to achieve its food security objectives, with the Meedhoo nursery becoming the first of the 20 nurseries to be established.
Ooredoo Maldives also contributed to the development of a Farmers’ Prayer House within the agricultural nursery, providing a dedicated space for farmers working at the site. The company provided trees for the community planting activity as part of its GrowWithOoredoo initiative.
The activity was joined by Ooredoo’s brand ambassador Zuvaan Dhanduveriyaa, alongside representatives of the ministry, the council and the local community.
