The Velana International Airport Security Committee (VIASC) has convened to review aviation security matters and strengthen coordination among stakeholders in safeguarding Velana International Airport (VIA).
The meeting was chaired by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed. It brought together key stakeholders to discuss security matters and coordination at the airport.
Separately, MACL recently held its Winter Readiness 2026/2027 Kickoff Meeting to prepare VIA for the seasonal increase in travel demand.
Winter coincides with the Maldives’ tourism high season, when demand from holidaymakers increases during the European winter and festive travel period. The Ministry of Tourism’s Tourism Yearbook identifies November to March as the country’s traditional peak occupancy period.
