Velana International Airport Conducts Partial Emergency Exercise

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), in collaboration with the Health Protection Agency (HPA), successfully conducted a partial emergency exercise at Velana International Airport on Thursday, 6 August 2026, simulating a communicable disease incident.

The exercise was designed to test the airport’s emergency preparedness and assess coordination between relevant agencies in responding to a potential communicable disease case onboard an arriving aircraft.

BEOND Airline participated as the partner airline in the exercise, supporting the simulation and helping create a realistic scenario for emergency response teams to evaluate existing procedures and response arrangements.

MACL said the exercise was completed successfully without causing any disruption to airport operations or scheduled flights.

The airport operator regularly conducts emergency exercises as part of efforts to strengthen preparedness, improve inter-agency coordination and ensure Velana International Airport is equipped to respond effectively to a range of emergency situations.

MACL said such exercises are aimed at identifying potential gaps in response procedures while enhancing the readiness of personnel and agencies involved in airport emergency operations.
