Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has cancelled its previous invitation for proposals for Engineering Design Review Consultancy Services and reissued the tender as part of the ongoing K. Thilafushi Port Development Project, one of the Maldives' largest planned infrastructure developments.
The earlier invitation, published under Announcement No. (IUL)113-PD/1/2026/47, has been withdrawn and replaced with a new call for proposals. MPL said interested consultancy firms must register their interest through the designated registration link by 1:00 p.m. (GMT+5) on 16 July 2026, with only registered parties eligible to participate in the proposal submission process. The deadline for inquiries is 20 July 2026, while proposals must be submitted by 1:00 p.m. on 23 July 2026 at the MPL Port Building in Malé.
The consultancy will provide an independent review of engineering concepts, detailed designs, geotechnical investigations, environmental assessments and other technical documents related to the Thilafushi Port Development Project, ensuring that the proposed infrastructure complies with international engineering standards and best practices.
The Government has identified the development of a new commercial port at K. Thilafushi as a strategic national priority. Located approximately 11 kilometres west of Malé, the industrial island is being developed into a major commercial port that will significantly expand the country's cargo handling capacity, reduce congestion at the Malé Commercial Harbour and strengthen the Greater Malé Region's role as the nation's logistics hub.
According to the Terms of Reference, the project aims to develop a world-class, multi-purpose commercial port capable of handling growing cargo volumes while providing resilient infrastructure designed to withstand coastal dynamics and climate change. The project also seeks to integrate modern utility services, stormwater management and wastewater treatment systems while ensuring compliance with international standards, including British Standards, Eurocodes and PIANC guidelines.
The project is currently in its feasibility and design stage, with activities including site and geotechnical investigations, coastal and hydrodynamic studies, environmental impact assessments, master planning, detailed engineering design and preliminary cost estimation. MPL said it welcomes qualified firms with the required expertise and experience to submit proposals for the consultancy.
