Velana International Airport (VIA) has achieved a historic milestone in its cargo operations, recording the highest monthly outbound transshipment volume in the airport’s history during July 2026 across both Sea-to-Air and Air-to-Air operations.
For the first time, total outbound transshipment cargo exceeded 2,000 tonnes within a single month, surpassing all previous monthly records at Velana International Airport.
Sea-to-Air operations also reached a new benchmark, recording their strongest monthly performance since the service was introduced. A total of 621 tonnes of cargo was uplifted during July, setting a new record for the airport’s Sea-to-Air operations.
The milestone reflects the continued growth of VIA’s transshipment business and highlights the airport’s expanding role as a strategic multimodal logistics hub in the Indian Ocean. By providing efficient cargo connectivity between key markets across Asia, Europe, and beyond, VIA continues to strengthen its position as a preferred gateway for international freight movement.
The record-breaking performance underscores the airport’s commitment to enhancing cargo capabilities, improving operational efficiency, and supporting the growing demand for seamless global logistics solutions.
