President confers Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin on Mohamed Moosa and Hussain Afeef

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has conferred the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin on prominent Maldivian business figures and brothers Mohamed Moosa and Hussain Afeef.

Mohamed Moosa is a leading entrepreneur and philanthropist with business interests spanning wholesale trade, agriculture, tourism, media, aviation, financial services and healthcare.

He continues to lead Champa Wholesale, which supplies food products and beverages to the hospitality sector and the wider domestic market. He also operates extensive agricultural, industrial and boatbuilding activities on Thun’bafushi in Kaafu Atoll.

Moosa has played a significant role in the expansion of the Maldivian tourism industry, with investments that have supported economic growth and created employment opportunities across the country.

His business ventures have also contributed to major infrastructure projects, including the expansion of Addu International Airport and the development of Madivaru Domestic Airport in Lhaviyani Atoll.

He was also involved in establishing the Maldives Finance and Leasing Company, the Commercial Bank of Maldives and Tree Top Hospital, strengthening the country’s financial and healthcare sectors.

Hussain Afeef is widely recognised as one of the pioneers of tourism in the Maldives and a key figure in the sector’s development.

Having entered the industry during its earliest years, Afeef worked across several areas of resort operations before assuming senior management and leadership roles. His work contributed to raising professional and service standards within the Maldivian hospitality industry.

Afeef has also been a strong advocate for sustainable tourism. Under his leadership, a resort developed on Gasfinolhu in Kaafu Atoll began operating in 2014 as the world’s first fully solar-powered resort.

As a founding member of the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry, Afeef has served in several senior positions and continues to serve as its Chairman.

His wider business contributions include involvement in hospitality, aviation, banking and healthcare. He played a leading role in the development of Addu International Airport, the establishment of Tree Top Hospital and the Commercial Bank of Maldives.

Through the Ali Fulhu Thuthu Foundation, the brothers have also supported scholarships, community development programmes and water and sewerage projects in several inhabited islands.

Mohamed Moosa and Hussain Afeef were previously conferred the Order of the Dignified Rule of the Muleege Dynasty in 2013.
