Maldivian plans new website and mobile app for February 2027 launch

Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL) has invited expressions of interest for the development of a new website and mobile application for Maldivian, with both platforms targeted to launch by the end of February 2027.

Separate requests for proposals have been issued for the two projects. The new website will replace the existing maldivian.aero platform, while the new iOS and Android application will replace Maldivian’s current mobile app.

Both platforms are required to go live by 28 February 2027 and are being developed to work with Maldivian’s wider passenger service infrastructure, including its upgraded Amadeus booking environment and a customer relationship management system being procured separately.

The new mobile app is planned as a digital travel companion, bringing together flight booking, trip management, mobile check-in, boarding passes, live flight information, disruption alerts and customer support. Boarding passes will be available offline and through Apple Wallet and Google Wallet.

The new website will place flight booking at the centre of the passenger experience and include manage booking, online check-in, flight status and schedules, destination information, special offers, Maldivian’s services, a newsroom, the Aerial Isles inflight magazine and a help and support centre.

The website and app will integrate with Maldivian’s separately procured CRM platform for functions including customer sign-in and profiles, consent management and customer support. An AI chatbot and live chat service provided through the CRM will also be integrated into both platforms.

Under the website project, IASL will also introduce a new headless content management system that will supply content to the website, mobile application and CRM chatbot through a shared content API. The RFP requires IASL to own the CMS and its source code without licence fees.

The projects are also designed to support greater direct digital sales and ancillary revenue, including seats, baggage, lounge products, upgrades, offers, partner campaigns and advertising. The platforms will also be structured to support personalisation and a future Maldivian loyalty programme.

Both the website and app will include coordinated emergency communication capabilities. During a major incident, the platforms will be able to switch to a black-and-white crisis mode that suppresses promotional content and prioritises official statements, passenger information and emergency contacts.

The website and mobile app are planned to launch in English while supporting the addition of further languages in future. Simplified Chinese is among the future capabilities identified in the RFPs.

The procurements are open to eligible local and international developers and digital agencies. Expressions of interest are due by 27 October 2026, while full proposals are due by 12 November 2026.

IASL expects implementation of both projects to be completed within 90 days of contract signing, with the website and mobile application scheduled to launch together by 28 February 2027.
