Maldivian small and medium-sized enterprises will be able to receive US dollar payments for transactions worldwide through Bank of Maldives Gateway from 1 November, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced.
The new arrangement will enable local SMEs to receive foreign currency payments through BML’s payment gateway.
Businesses will also be able to use the dollars received through the facility to make payments for goods and services purchased from overseas, according to the President’s Office.
Muizzu announced the measure at the Maldives Expo 2026 Awards Ceremony on Saturday as part of a broader package of initiatives aimed at supporting SMEs and expanding opportunities for local businesses.
