Bank of Maldives has partnered with Special Olympics Maldives to expand opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities, reinforcing efforts to promote inclusivity and equal participation in sports across the Maldives.
The partnership will see the Bank support a range of programmes delivered by Special Olympics Maldives, including athlete training, health initiatives, family engagement, leadership development and international representation. Community engagement activities under the initiative are expected to benefit more than 500 registered athletes.
Special Olympics Maldives operates as the national affiliate of the global Special Olympics movement, focusing on year round sports training and competition for children and youth with intellectual disabilities. The organisation’s programmes are designed to build confidence, improve physical fitness and develop essential life skills, while encouraging broader social acceptance and inclusion.
The collaboration reflects a growing emphasis on inclusive community initiatives within the country’s sports sector. By supporting structured training and participation pathways, the partnership aims to strengthen access to sporting opportunities for a wider segment of society.
Bank of Maldives stated that the initiative aligns with its ongoing efforts to support sports development nationwide through targeted programmes and partnerships that encourage youth participation and inclusive access. The Bank has continued to play a role in facilitating community based initiatives that contribute to broader social and economic engagement.
The partnership is expected to enhance the reach and impact of Special Olympics Maldives, supporting the organisation’s capacity to deliver sustained programmes while enabling greater participation in both national and international sporting platforms.
