The Government plans to introduce an artificial intelligence-powered traffic enforcement system in Malé as part of wider efforts to modernise public services and strengthen the Maldives’ digital infrastructure.
Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Hassan Zareer outlined the plans while presenting the proposed 2027 state budget to the People’s Majlis.
Zareer said work is underway to establish a Smart Traffic Enforcement System that will use artificial intelligence to digitalise the management and enforcement of traffic in Malé.
The initiative is intended to provide a technology-based response to congestion and traffic management challenges in the capital.
The 2027 budget will also support the implementation of a Greater Malé Transport Mobility Plan aimed at strengthening the wider transport system.
Alongside the transport initiatives, the Government plans to establish a National Sovereign Cloud Data Centre to securely store and manage government data.
A modern digital identification system, or smart card system, is also planned to simplify access to public services.
Zareer said the initiatives form part of the Government’s broader effort to strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure and modernise the delivery of public services.
