The Government is targeting 2.5 million tourist arrivals in 2027 as it prepares to mark the year as “Visit Maldives Year”.
Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Hassan Zareer announced the target while presenting the proposed 2027 state budget to the People’s Majlis.
Zareer said around 2.28 million tourists are projected to visit the Maldives in 2027 under existing trends, with initiatives planned under Visit Maldives Year expected to attract around 200,000 additional visitors.
The Government aims to strengthen tourism revenue while extending the benefits of the industry to a wider segment of the population.
Zareer said achieving the target will require coordinated efforts between the Government and tourism-sector stakeholders, including Visit Maldives Corporation, airlines and tourism service providers.
Marketing activities in international markets are expected to be strengthened as part of the campaign.
The Government also plans to place greater emphasis on increasing tourist arrivals during the off-peak season and expanding flight connectivity to the Maldives.
Tourism remains the largest contributor to the Maldivian economy and a key source of foreign exchange and government revenue.
