Land reclamation works at Gaadhiffushi in Thaa Atoll have been successfully completed, marking a significant step in expanding usable land in the island.
The project covered a total area of 11 hectares, with an estimated fill volume of 396,000 cubic metres. Operations were carried out by the dredger FILIPPO BRUNELLESCHI, which has a capacity of 11,500 cubic metres.
Reclamation activities commenced on April 10, 2026, and were completed within eight days, concluding on April 18, 2026.
The project was undertaken by Peninsula Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Maldives Airports Company Limited. Established on October 6, 2025, the company aims to expand beyond airport operations into large-scale land reclamation, dredging, and urban infrastructure development across the Maldives.
The completion of the Gaadhiffushi reclamation project is expected to support future development initiatives in the island and surrounding areas.
