Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has completed land reclamation works in Thaa Atoll Veymandoo, reclaiming a total of 27 hectares as part of ongoing efforts to support infrastructure development and regional expansion.
According to the company, reclamation operations were carried out using the trailing suction hopper dredger FILIPPO BRUNELLESCHI, with works commencing on 12 March 2026 and concluding on 04 April 2026.

The completion of reclamation marks a key milestone in the project timeline, establishing the physical groundwork required for future development in the island. Land reclamation projects are typically a precursor to infrastructure investments, enabling expansion of economic activities and improved connectivity across atolls.
MACL stated that the project forms part of broader development efforts aimed at supporting regional growth. The company has been involved in multiple infrastructure initiatives aligned with national development priorities, particularly in enhancing capacity and facilitating long-term economic activity beyond the Greater Male area.
The Veymandoo reclamation is expected to contribute to future development planning in the atoll, with reclaimed land offering opportunities for infrastructure expansion and associated economic activity.
