Visit Maldives Records Highest Income in Eight Years

Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has reported its highest annual income in eight years, generating MVR 32.54 million in self-generated revenue during 2025, according to figures presented at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on 9 June at Meeruma Hall.

Shareholders at the meeting approved the Corporation's Annual Report and audited financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2025. VMC said the income was generated through membership contributions, participation in international trade fairs and roadshows, publications, and other commercial activities, reflecting increased stakeholder engagement and diversified revenue streams.

The AGM also highlighted a record year for Maldivian tourism, with the country welcoming more than two million visitors in 2025 and earning over USD 5.57 billion in tourism receipts, a 16.4 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Chairperson of the Board of Directors Abdulla Ghiyas Riyaz said the achievements reflected the collective efforts of industry stakeholders and the Corporation's continued focus on strengthening the Maldives' competitiveness as a tourism destination.

"The achievements of 2025 demonstrate the strength of the Maldives tourism industry and the value of collaboration between government institutions, industry stakeholders, and our international partners," he said.

The meeting reviewed key governance developments, including the Corporation's rebranding from Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) to Visit Maldives Corporation under Presidential Decree No. 19/2025. During the year, the Board held 30 meetings, adopted 70 resolutions, and passed 59 circular resolutions. Two Extraordinary General Meetings were also held to approve the name change and expand the Board from seven to nine directors.

The Maldives also secured international recognition in 2025, winning the title of World's Leading Destination at the World Travel Awards for the sixth consecutive year and World's Leading Green Destination for the second consecutive year.

VMC highlighted its extensive destination marketing efforts during the year, including 46 campaigns, 27 collaborative initiatives, participation in 16 international trade fairs, 14 familiarisation trips, and 27 public relations activities across key source markets.

Among its major initiatives was the launch of a three-year global partnership with Liverpool Football Club, giving the Maldives brand exposure to more than 205 million followers worldwide. The Corporation also signed 11 strategic memorandums of understanding with airlines, financial institutions, and global travel platforms.

VMC thanked government institutions, tourism stakeholders, partners, members, and staff for their support and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening destination promotion and sustainable tourism development in the Maldives.
