Bank of Maldives (BML) has officially inaugurated ATM services in HDh. Nellaidhoo today, marking a significant step in expanding banking access across the Maldives. The service was launched by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during a special ceremony held on the island as part of his ongoing tour of HDh. Atoll.
The inauguration
was attended by BML Chairperson Ahmed Ali Habib, CEO and Managing Director
Mohamed Shareef, and Nellaidhoo Council President Mohamed Aleef. To commemorate
the occasion, President Muizzu conducted the first transaction by withdrawing
cash from the new ATM before presenting a commemorative bank card to the island
council.
According to
BML, the self-service ATM will offer 24-hour access to a range of services,
including cash withdrawals and deposits for individuals and businesses, bill
payments, and transfer services. Customers will also be able to make credit
card and loan repayments through the new facility.
The Nellaidhoo
launch is part of the joint initiative between BML and the government to ensure
ATM services are available in all inhabited islands. Under the “BML ATM for the
Whole Maldives” project, 10 more ATMs will be installed across HDh. Atoll this week,
extending coverage throughout the region.
BML has pledged
to complete the nationwide expansion by the end of the year, with more than 250
ATMs planned across the Maldives. The initiative is expected to significantly
enhance financial accessibility and convenience for communities, particularly
in remote islands.
