Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Engineering Service Building at Velana International Airport, further strengthening its technical operations and aviation infrastructure.
The new facility, officially opened on July 6, marks a significant milestone in the airline’s efforts to enhance operational efficiency and support services. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Captain Mohamed Ameen, Chairman of the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority Abdul Haris, senior executives from Maldivian, and other dignitaries.
Designed to consolidate and streamline key engineering operations, the building houses dedicated spaces for the Continuing Airworthiness Management Organization (CAMO), Quality, Safety & Security, Materials Management, and a comprehensive aircraft spare parts storage hub. By bringing these essential units under one roof, Maldivian aims to boost coordination, improve regulatory compliance, and ensure greater reliability across its fleet.
“This facility reflects our long-term investment in operational excellence and infrastructure,” said a representative from Maldivian. “It supports our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and airworthiness.”
A significant portion of the building is dedicated to the storage and management of aircraft spares, enabling better inventory control and more responsive maintenance logistics. The enhanced setup is expected to maximize fleet availability and readiness.
In a heartfelt tribute, the facility has been named in honor of the late Ali Firag, Maldivian’s former Director of Engineering, whose leadership and contributions played a pivotal role in the airline’s development.
Earlier this year, Maldivian received EASA Part 145 certification, affirming the airline’s adherence to stringent international safety and maintenance standards. The airline also provides line maintenance services for other carriers operating in the Maldives.
With this latest addition, Maldivian continues to position itself as a dependable and modern national carrier, ready to meet the growing demands of both domestic and international air travel.
