Reclamation works for Hulhumalé Phase 3 are progressing steadily, with nearly half of the planned land area now completed, according to an update from Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
A total of 31
hectares out of the targeted 63 hectares has been reclaimed so far, bringing
overall project progress to 49.2 percent. The ongoing works are being supported
by two high-capacity dredgers currently operating on site — Prins der
Nederlanden and Oranje — each with a dredging capacity of 22,000
cubic metres, enabling continuous and efficient land formation.
MACL commenced reclamation works for Hulhumalé Phase 3 on 10 November 2025. Since the start of the project, dredging and reclamation activities have continued in line with the planned schedule, with operations maintained to ensure steady progress across the site.
The Hulhumalé
Phase 3 reclamation project is a key component of broader efforts to expand
land availability in the Greater Malé Region. Once completed, the newly
reclaimed land is expected to support future housing developments, public
infrastructure, and essential services, helping to ease congestion and address
long-term urban development needs.
MACL has
indicated that reclamation works will continue at pace, with both dredgers
remaining actively engaged on site as the project advances toward completion of
the remaining land area.
