The Maldives has been awarded the title of World’s Leading Green Destination at the 2024 World Travel Awards (WTA) Grand Final Gala Ceremony, held on November 24 in Madeira, Portugal. This marks a historic achievement for the island nation, as it secures the top spot in sustainable tourism for the first time, competing against renowned destinations such as Chile, Madagascar, Norway, and Peru.
The recognition
is a testament to the Maldives' unwavering commitment to environmental
conservation and sustainable tourism practices. Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and
Managing Director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation
(MMPRC) expressed pride in the accomplishment. This award highlights our
dedication to environmental stewardship and the preservation of our pristine
natural environment for future generations, Shiuree said.
