Ministry of Sports has signed an agreement with Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) to develop multi-sport complexes in Vilimale’, Hulhumale' Phase 1 and Hulhumale' Phase 2.
The agreement was signed
at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Sports yesterday. MACL’s Chief
Executive Officer and Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, signed the
agreement on behalf of the company, while Minister of Sports Abdulla
Rafiu signed on behalf of the ministry.
The project forms part
of the government’s broader efforts to expand access to sports, fitness and
recreational facilities across the country. Under the national plan, fitness
and recreation centres are to be established on every inhabited island in the Maldives
by 2026, in line with a presidential pledge made by former President Dr.
Mohamed Muizzu.
In support of this goal,
the Ministry of Sports previously signed agreements with MACL on
August 18, 2025, to establish fitness and recreation centres on 63 islands
across the Maldives.
The multi-sport complexes planned for Vilimale’ and Hulhumale’ are expected to further strengthen sports infrastructure in the Malé region, providing residents with improved facilities for physical activity, training and community recreation.
