The Maldives has been recognised as one of the world’s best food destinations in the 2025 Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards, securing joint 10th place with Peru and earning an impressive score of 94.55%.
The awards, voted by thousands of global travellers, highlight the countries that offered the most memorable culinary experiences over the past year. With winners spread across five continents, the list underscores the diversity of global cuisine.
Condé Nast Traveller praised the Maldives for its extraordinary island dining culture, where luxury resorts transform meals into unforgettable experiences. The magazine highlighted Soneva Fushi’s treetop private dining, accessible by a 200-metre zipline, as an example of how Maldivian resorts combine creativity with breathtaking settings.
Seafood remains at the heart of Maldivian cuisine, with the daily catch often featured across breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus. The nation’s tropical fruits — from coconuts to mangoes and papayas — also add fresh, vibrant flavours to meals, creating a unique fusion of tradition and island luxury.
“Scattered across almost 1,200 coral islands, the Maldives is a master of all things seafood,” the magazine noted, adding that extensive all-inclusive resort packages ensure visitors are never short of culinary options.
The top five foodie destinations in the 2025 rankings were Thailand (98.33%), Italy (96.92%), Japan (96.77%), Vietnam (96.67%), and Spain (95.91%). Other countries making the top 15 included Sri Lanka, Greece, South Africa, France, and Turkey.
This recognition reaffirms the Maldives’ reputation not only as a destination for natural beauty and luxury but also as a rising global hotspot for food lovers.
