First Cambodia cargo shipment to France transits via Velana Airport

Velana International Airport (VIA) has successfully handled its first sea-to-air transshipment cargo from Cambodia to France, marking a significant milestone in the airport's expanding role as a logistics hub connecting Southeast Asia and Europe.

The shipment was transported by sea from Cambodia to the Maldives before being transferred through VIA for onward air transport to Lille, France, demonstrating the airport's growing multimodal cargo connectivity and its ability to support new international trade routes.

Until now, most sea-to-air transshipment cargo handled through VIA has originated from Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka. The successful handling of cargo from Cambodia represents the expansion of the airport's cargo network into Southeast Asia.

Sea-to-air transshipment combines the cost advantages of sea freight with the speed of air transport, offering a more economical alternative to full air freight while significantly reducing transit times compared with conventional sea shipping. The service is particularly suited for time-sensitive cargo.

The latest development further strengthens Velana International Airport's position as a strategic multimodal logistics hub in the Indian Ocean, providing efficient cargo connections between major markets in Asia and Europe.
