STO People’s Choice Opens First Floor Dedicated to Home Improvement and Lifestyle Products

State Trading Organization (STO) has officially opened the first floor of its People’s Choice hypermarket, expanding its range of products and services with a dedicated space for home improvement, home décor and lifestyle brands.

The new floor was inaugurated at a special ceremony held on 11 June 2026, attended by the Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, alongside members of STO’s Board and Executive Committee, suppliers and business partners.

According to STO, the opening marks another milestone in the continued growth of People’s Choice, which first introduced the supermarket concept to the Maldives when it opened in 1991. The retailer later underwent a major transformation in 2022, reopening as the country’s first hypermarket and expanding its offerings beyond groceries to include home improvement and household products.

STO said the launch of the first floor reflects its efforts to further strengthen the services available to customers and improve access to quality products at competitive prices.

The newly opened floor is dedicated to home improvement equipment and home décor products, featuring dedicated outlets for Procure Plus and Peekaboo, as well as a Rainbow Home Improvement display zone.

Customers will also have access to products from several internationally recognised brands currently distributed by STO, including Philips, Russell Hobbs, LG, and Dyson. In addition, products from the Chinese technology brand Sunmi have been introduced to the local market through the new outlet.

STO also announced that an outlet of the popular coffee chain The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf will soon begin operations on the first floor.

To enhance the shopping experience for families, the floor includes a dedicated Kids' Corner designed for young children, allowing parents to shop more comfortably.

The opening follows STO’s recent expansion into Hulhumalé, where the company launched a People’s Choice outlet in Hulhumalé Phase 1 in February this year. STO described the expansion as part of its broader strategy to reach more customers and meet growing demand for modern retail services.

Following the inauguration, the first floor of STO People’s Choice opened to the public for shopping from Friday.
