Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has announced its partnership as the Destination Partner of the inaugural Thoddoo Masters Table Tennis Tournament (TMTT), set to take place in AA. Thoddoo from August 19–25, 2025.
Organized by the
Thoddoo Local Authority Company (TLAC) and Ihaa Table Tennis Academy (ITTA),
the tournament is endorsed by the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation,
the Table Tennis Association of Maldives, and VMC. The event will bring
together 120 local and international players aged 35 and above, marking a
milestone in the Maldives’ effort to diversify its tourism industry through
sports.
The matches will
be held at Thoddoo’s multi-purpose school hall, providing a platform not only
for competition but also for cultural exchange, community involvement, and
economic opportunities for the island. By linking sports with tourism, the
tournament highlights the Maldives’ growing capacity to host international
events alongside its established reputation for luxury resorts and natural
beauty.
“This tournament
highlights our commitment to expanding the Maldives’ tourism horizon,” said
Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO & MD of Visit Maldives Corporation. “Sports tourism is
a rapidly growing sector, and by supporting international tournaments such as
TMTT, we reinforce the Maldives’ global image as more than a leisure
destination — but also a vibrant hub for sports, wellness, and lifestyle
experiences.”
The 1st Thoddoo
Masters Table Tennis Tournament is seen as a significant step toward
positioning the Maldives as a premier sports tourism hub. It is also expected
to benefit local communities directly, boosting Thoddoo’s economy and enhancing
the country’s international profile as a destination that blends competitive
spirit with cultural and natural richness.
