President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art engineering laboratory in the Maldives, with work currently underway to develop the facility.
The President made the announcement in a special video message delivered today to mark National Engineers’ Day.
In his message, President Muizzu said the proposed laboratory is being designed to provide services across a broad range of engineering disciplines under one roof. These include civil, mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, aircraft and aeronautical engineering, as well as robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital engineering.
He said the Government is currently carrying out the technical preparations and logistical arrangements required for the construction of the facility.
The President also emphasised that both the construction and operation of the laboratory will be financed entirely outside the State budget.
According to the President, the facility will be equipped to the required standards to conduct a wide range of engineering analyses and testing.
He added that the laboratory will be accessible to students from across the Maldives, while also providing testing services to international parties seeking access to such facilities.
The planned laboratory is expected to strengthen engineering education, technical research and testing capabilities in the Maldives, while expanding opportunities for students and professionals across multiple engineering fields.
