Global luxury hospitality brand Atlantis has announced plans to open its first Maldivian resort in 2029, unveiling an ambitious development set across two interconnected islands in North Malé Atoll. The project, named Atlantis The Royal Maldives, marks a significant expansion of the brand’s presence in the Indian Ocean and introduces one of the most extensive resort concepts planned for the Maldives to date.
The resort is
being developed on Vaarehdhoo in partnership with Khazna International and
Asset Group, two global operators of high-end hotels and tourism properties.
According to the developers, the dual-island project will cater to diverse
traveller segments, with one island dedicated to a family-focused experience
and the other built around an elevated luxury lifestyle concept.
The expansive
development will feature a combined total of 270 rooms and 223 villas, offering
a mix of beachfront, overwater, and premium accommodation options. Guests will
have access to 20 restaurants, extensive spa facilities, and fully equipped
indoor and outdoor fitness centres designed to support wellness-driven travel.
Among the
standout features of Atlantis The Royal Maldives are two beach clubs and
a 70,000-square-metre water park boasting 15 rides — a scale rarely seen in the
Maldives’ resort landscape. The project is also positioned as a model for
eco-conscious development, integrating coral farming initiatives, water recycling
systems, and renewable energy solutions aimed at minimising environmental
impact and preserving the natural ecosystem of the islands.
Construction is
underway, with the official opening date set for 2029. The developers say the
resort will bring a new level of experiential tourism to the Maldives,
combining world-class hospitality with sustainability-focused design.
