Steve Jayasinghe, a barista at Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas, was selected to represent the Maldives at the global event, which is being held from 24 to 27 March. While not a Maldivian national, he is competing under the Maldives banner through his professional role in the country’s hospitality sector.
Euro Marketing Pvt. Ltd., the exclusive distributor of Lavazza in the Maldives, confirmed that public votes are now open, with audience participation contributing to the overall evaluation of competitors. Supporters can cast their votes through the official platform: https://www.lavazzabaristachallenge2026.com/bartender-vote.html
The Lavazza Barista Challenge brings together baristas from more than 20 countries, providing a platform to showcase technical expertise, creativity and evolving coffee preparation techniques. Participants are assessed across a range of challenges, including espresso-based beverages and signature creations, with criteria covering execution, presentation and innovation.
Steve’s participation places the Maldives among a competitive international field, highlighting the country’s presence in global hospitality and beverage platforms. Industry observers note that such competitions offer visibility not only for individual professionals but also for the resorts and service standards associated with the Maldives.
Euro Marketing stated that his selection reflects both professional experience and contribution to the hospitality industry in the Maldives, where international talent continues to play a significant role in delivering high-end service.
As the competition progresses in Italy, increased public engagement is expected to influence standings, with supporters encouraged to cast their votes in support of the Maldives’ representation on the global stage.
