President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the 2026
state budget will allot MVR 500 million each to the healthcare and education
sectors. The announcement came during a speech in Funadhoo, North
Miladhummadulu Atoll.
In education, the government plans to expand access to
higher secondary education, build inclusive classrooms for students with
disabilities, train special education teachers, and open a vocational high
school.
For the health sector, investments will aim to reduce
outbound medical travel by improving local diagnostic and surgical capacity.
The plan includes strengthening regional hospitals, upgrading services in Malé,
and bolstering facilities on priority islands.
The national health policy for 2026 will integrate
preventive and curative strategies to support public well-being. The President
said these allocations reflect the administration’s emphasis on social
development and essential services.
