The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has opened applications for its 2026 Research Fund, inviting proposals for Independent Research Grants and Book Grants. Applications close on 13 October.
The grants are intended to support research and academic books that can inform policymaking and contribute to economic and financial stability in the Maldives. Individuals, educational institutions and think tanks may apply. For team applications, the lead applicant must hold at least a master’s degree. The MMA also encourages applications from PhD holders.
Proposals aligned with the MMA’s objectives and national priorities will receive particular consideration, although applicants may submit work outside the identified research areas. Those areas include monetary policy and inflation, financial sector resilience, fintech and financial inclusion, tourism, Islamic finance, labour and education, housing, and health and social protection.
The MMA launched the Research Fund at its Research Conference in December 2024. In its first funding round in 2025, it awarded grants to six research proposals and one book project.
Applications must be submitted through the MMA Research Fund portal by 13 October 2026.
