The Maldives and Germany have held official talks focused on diversifying mutually beneficial cooperation on bilateral and multilateral fronts through increased high-level dialogue and formal agreements.
The discussions were held during the ongoing official visit of Dr Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Republic of Maldives, to the Federal Republic of Germany from 9 to 13 February 2026.
President Dr Muizzu’s visit marks the first official visit by a Maldivian President at the invitation of the President of Germany. The visit also coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany.
The official talks took place this morning at Schloss Bellevue, the official residence of the German President. The meeting was led by President Dr Muizzu and His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany, with senior government officials from both countries in attendance.
Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation across key areas and exploring new opportunities for collaboration through enhanced high-level engagement and the development of formal agreements.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening bilateral relations and advancing cooperation that would contribute to mutual development and shared interests at regional and international levels.
