Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that domestic travellers will begin using the airport’s old international terminal starting tomorrow.
Velana International Airport is currently operating its new Terminal 1 for international flights, leaving the old terminal vacated.
MACL said the terminal has undergone upgrades and refurbishment, and is now ready to accommodate domestic operations.
A special ceremony will be held tomorrow to mark the commencement of services.
The move is expected to ease congestion, as the current domestic terminal is small and often crowded.
Domestic flights operated by Maldivian, Manta Air and Villa Air are widely used by tourists, in addition to locals, for transfers to resorts. The shift is expected to make these journeys more convenient.
