Ooredoo Masrace 2026 will be held in K. Maafushi this Friday, bringing together 16 teams for a fishing competition with a total prize pool of MVR 43,000.
The event, organised by Ooredoo in partnership with the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources, is scheduled for August 28 and will celebrate Maldivian fishing traditions while promoting teamwork and community participation.
The winning team will receive MVR 25,000, while the second-place team will be awarded MVR 10,000 and the third-place team MVR 5,000.
Individual prizes of MVR 1,000 each will also be awarded to the Best Fisherman, Best Fisherwoman and the participant who lands the Biggest Catch.
Ooredoo said Masrace is intended to be more than a fishing competition, describing the event as a community festival that brings together families, friends and fishing enthusiasts while celebrating the Maldives’ long-standing connection with the sea.
The company said the event provides an opportunity for participants of different ages and backgrounds to take part in traditional fishing activities, share experiences and compete in a spirit of friendly rivalry.
Teams representing government institutions, companies and members of the public are expected to participate in this year’s competition.
