Velana International Airport and Maamahi Executive Lounge Nominated for World Travel Awards 2026

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that both Velana International Airport (VIA) and the Maamahi Executive Lounge have been shortlisted for the prestigious World Travel Awards 2026, earning recognition in two leading regional categories.

Velana International Airport has been nominated for Indian Ocean's Leading Airport 2026, reinforcing its reputation as one of the region's premier aviation hubs. The airport has previously won the coveted title 12 times, highlighting its consistent excellence in airport operations and passenger services.

Meanwhile, the Maamahi Executive Lounge has been nominated for Indian Ocean's Leading Airport Lounge 2026, recognising its dedication to providing travellers with a premium, comfortable and world-class airport lounge experience.

Founded in 1993, the World Travel Awards is widely regarded as one of the travel and tourism industry's highest honours, celebrating excellence across aviation, hospitality and tourism sectors worldwide.

MACL said the nominations underscore its ongoing commitment to improving airport infrastructure and services, enhancing the passenger journey, and further strengthening Velana International Airport's position as the Maldives' primary international gateway.

The dual nominations mark another milestone for MACL as it continues its efforts to deliver internationally recognised standards of service while supporting the growth of the Maldives' tourism industry.
