MWSC Becomes Fifth State-Owned Company to Fully Publish Proactive Disclosures

Malé Water and Sewerage Company Private Limited (MWSC) has become the fifth state-owned company in the Maldives to fully publish its proactive disclosure information.

The company is also the 42nd institution among all state institutions across the country to achieve the milestone.

The Information Commissioner’s Office congratulated MWSC on completing the publication of the required information.

The Right to Information Act (Law No. 1/2014) grants every citizen the right to access information held by public authorities, promoting transparency, accountability and good governance.

MWSC said it remains committed to complying with the Act and facilitating timely and transparent public access to information.

Requests for information under the Act must be submitted to MWSC’s Information Officer. Applications can be sent by email or submitted through the Mahoali Portal, which is administered by the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Under normal circumstances, MWSC must provide the requested information within 21 days of receiving an application. If a request involves a large volume of information or requires extensive research, the deadline may be extended by an additional 14 days in accordance with the Act.

If the requested information cannot be disclosed, the applicant will be notified in writing and provided with the reasons for the refusal.

Applicants who are dissatisfied with the Information Officer’s response—or with the time taken to respond—may appeal to MWSC’s Review Committee within 30 days of the decision.

The Review Committee must issue its decision within 30 days of receiving the appeal.
