National carrier Maldivian is set to begin dazzling new seaplane flights to Baa atoll Kamadhoo from Thursday next week, bringing the vibrant island closer to travelers with a fresh, affordable option. The airline announced that the flights will operate regularly every Thursday, offering an attractive introductory one-way fare of just MVR 1,199.
The eagerly
awaited service follows an agreement signed on August 11 with The Hawks Hotel,
a partnership seen as a significant milestone for boosting connectivity to the
flourishing guesthouse island. Kamadhoo, already a lively hotspot for domestic
travelers during Eid and other festive holidays, is witnessing rapid growth in
its guesthouse sector. Local tourism operators enthusiastically predict that
the new seaplane link will dramatically increase visitor arrivals, injecting
fresh energy into the community’s blossoming tourism economy.
According to
Maldivian, the initiative highlights the airline’s growing commitment to
enhancing domestic air connectivity and supporting local tourism development
across the country. The government, too, has ambitiously outlined plans to
expand seaplane services to other highly popular guesthouse destinations,
including Alifu Alifu Thoddoo, Alifu Alifu Ukulhas, and Noonu atoll Velidhoo.
Officials say these expansions will play a crucial role in diversifying the
country’s tourism sector beyond resorts, making travel more accessible and
affordable for both locals and international visitors.
With the new
Kamadhoo service, residents and tourists alike are expected to enjoy faster,
smoother, and more scenic connections to the island, which is celebrated for
its peaceful charm, pristine natural beauty, and increasingly dynamic
hospitality offerings.
