Greater Bay Airlines of Hong Kong has commenced charter flight operations to the Maldives, further strengthening the country’s air connectivity with the East Asian region.
The airline’s inaugural service, HB2500, landed at Velana International Airport today and was welcomed with a traditional water salute to mark the milestone. A total of 174 passengers arrived on the first flight.
Greater Bay Airlines plans to operate direct charter services between Hong Kong and Malé using Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, providing additional travel capacity from the East Asian market.
With the introduction of these services, the airline becomes the second carrier to offer direct flights between Hong Kong and the Maldives, reflecting sustained demand and growing tourism interest from the region.
The new charter operations are expected to support the Maldives’ tourism sector by improving accessibility for travelers from East Asia and enhancing bilateral travel links.
