Bank of Maldives (BML) has introduced a monthly limit of USD 3,500 per customer for US dollar cash withdrawals at ATMs, effective 1 October 2026. The existing daily withdrawal limit of USD 1,600 per card remains unchanged.
The bank said the measure forms part of its shift towards digital banking and reduced reliance on physical cash. BML described the transition as supporting faster, safer and more convenient payments, alongside a more efficient financial system.
According to BML, the bank has invested significantly in digital channels that allow customers to conduct everyday banking without cash. These include its Mobile Banking and Internet Banking services, through which customers can make payments, transfer funds and manage their accounts.
The bank also highlighted card and contactless payments at merchants in the Maldives and abroad, as well as instant transfers to other accounts, as alternatives to cash transactions.
