Bank of Maldives (BML) has secured the Guinness World Records title for the most people snorkelling simultaneously at a single venue, bringing together 314 participants at Niva Kurumba Maldives in an initiative to raise awareness of ocean conservation.
The event involved BML staff, resort guests and the Niva Kurumba Maldives team. It aimed to give participants a first-hand experience of the country’s reefs while encouraging collective responsibility for protecting marine ecosystems.
Following official verification, the Guinness World Records certificate was presented to BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef and Niva Kurumba Maldives General Manager Morten Junior.
According to the bank, the initiative was designed to turn conservation awareness into a shared experience, encouraging individuals and communities to take an active role in safeguarding the ocean ecosystems on which the Maldives depends.

Under the programme, the bank allocates a contribution from its earnings on every transaction processed through a BML Point of Sale terminal to fund environmental initiatives, at no additional cost to customers or merchants.
Through ENV POS, BML has partnered with organisations including Parley Maldives and the Maldives Ocean Plastics Alliance (MOPA) to support the recycling and export of ocean-bound plastic waste.
The record-setting event adds a community participation component to these efforts, using a shared encounter with the marine environment to draw attention to reef protection and ocean conservation.
