Rasmale’ Reclamation Nears Finish Line as 84% of Site A Completed

Rasmale’ Site A has reached a major milestone with more than 116 hectares reclaimed, as work continues steadily on schedule using one of the world’s largest dredging vessels.

Reclamation works at Rasmale’ Site A have reached 84.36 percent completion, with 116.00 hectares reclaimed out of the planned 137.5 hectares, marking significant progress on one of the Maldives’ largest ongoing land development projects.

The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which is overseeing the project, confirmed that works are advancing in line with the established schedule since reclamation officially began on 1 December 2025. The steady pace of progress reflects the scale and technical precision involved in transforming the site for future development.

The reclamation is being carried out by Jan De Nul, a globally recognised marine engineering firm, using the Cristóbal Colón, one of the world’s largest Trailer Suction Hopper Dredgers. With a hopper capacity of 46,000 cubic metres, the vessel enables high-volume, efficient reclamation operations, underscoring the project’s engineering complexity.

Officials note that the deployment of such advanced dredging technology highlights the importance of the Rasmale’ project, which is expected to play a key role in expanding national infrastructure and supporting long-term development objectives once completed.
