Vietjet Air is scheduled to launch flights connecting Malé, Colombo and Ho Chi Minh City on December 5, 2026, opening new travel opportunities between the Maldives, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
Oefaru Aviation Services, Vietjet’s official General Sales Agent in the Maldives, shared details of the upcoming service during a media briefing held in V. Fulidhoo from October 9 to 10. Flights are scheduled to operate three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The briefing also highlighted Vietnam’s appeal as an affordable family holiday destination, offering a mix of city experiences, beaches, historic attractions and scenic landscapes.
According to Oefaru, a Maldivian family of four could plan a seven-night holiday in Vietnam with an estimated budget of USD 2,000 to USD 3,000, excluding international airfare. The sample budget covers accommodation, meals, domestic transport, sightseeing, family activities, shopping and a contingency allowance for unexpected expenses.
The company stressed that the estimate is a planning guide rather than a fixed holiday package price. Actual spending will vary depending on travel dates, destinations, accommodation choices and individual spending habits.
Oefaru noted that assessing the affordability of a holiday requires looking beyond ticket prices. Accommodation, food, transport and activities can account for a substantial share of a family’s overall travel expenses.
Among the destinations highlighted were Ho Chi Minh City, the beaches of Da Nang, the historic streets of Hoi An, the Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills and the natural scenery of northern Vietnam. Oefaru said this variety gives families opportunities to enjoy different experiences while working within a planned budget.
The session also emphasised the value of organising trips early, including making arrangements for foreign currency and international payments.
As the December launch approaches, Oefaru said it would continue to assist travellers with flight bookings and travel information. As Vietjet’s General Sales Agent in the Maldives, the company handles sales, reservations and customer support for the airline.
