The foundation for the Fitness and Recreation Center in HDh. Finey has been officially laid, marking a new milestone in the government’s pledge to expand sports infrastructure across the Maldives.
The ceremony was
attended by Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu, Maldives
Airports Company Limited (MACL) CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef
Mohamed, and Finey Council President Adnan Abdulla. The center is being
developed under the agreement signed on August 18, 2025, between the Sports
Ministry and MACL to construct fitness and recreation facilities in 63 islands.
As part of the
initiative, MACL has also been contracted to build multi-sports complexes in
AA. Ukulhas and AA. Rasdhoo. The projects are expected to provide communities
with improved access to modern sports and fitness infrastructure, encouraging
healthy lifestyles and youth engagement in sports.
The nationwide
program to establish fitness and recreation centers in all inhabited islands is
a key pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, aimed at decentralizing access to
sports facilities and fostering community wellbeing.
