President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to establish Bank of Maldives (BML) dollar ATMs in Vaavu Atoll’s Fulidhoo and Thinadhoo before March next year, assuring island communities of improved financial access.
The announcement
was made during the President’s visit to Thinadhoo on Friday night as part of
his official tour of 31 islands across four atolls. Meeting with island leaders
and residents at the harbor area, President Muizzu said the government would also
construct a harbor to address the island’s long-standing transportation
difficulties.
Community
representatives highlighted the island’s pressing needs during the
consultation, emphasizing challenges in infrastructure and transport, while
also acknowledging recent improvements in health services and development
projects carried out by the administration.
Responding to
their concerns, the President underscored the government’s commitment to
solving the harbor issue, noting that Thinadhoo’s guesthouse tourism sector
relies heavily on reliable transport links. He added that the introduction of
dollar ATM services would further support both residents and businesses
operating in the local tourism economy.
The meeting was
attended by cabinet ministers, senior government officials, island council
members, and representatives of local institutions, who joined residents in
discussing the island’s development priorities.
