MACL launches Aviation Institute of Maldives, graduates first batch of security officers

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) officially launched its Aviation Institute of Maldives (AIM) on Wednesday and awarded certificates to the institute's first graduating class. The ceremony was held at the Hulhule Island Hotel ballroom.

Chancellor of the Maldives National University (MNU), Dr. Mahamood Shougee, attended as chief guest and formally inaugurated the institute. MACL Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed and senior company management also attended.

CEO Shareef presented graduation certificates to the students. Dr. Shougee presented special awards to the course's top performers.

Purpose of the institute

Speaking at the ceremony, CEO Shareef said AIM was created to build the technical workforce needed for the aviation sector. He said the institute reflects MACL's long-term commitment to training skilled personnel for the airport industry.

Dr. Shougee commended MACL for its role in building an educated, skilled workforce in the Maldives. He said the institute marked a meaningful step for technical training in the country.

First graduating batch

A total of 29 students completed the Airport Security Management course and received certificates at the ceremony. The course is a Certificate Level 3 program. It was developed in line with standards set by the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) and aligned with the national qualifications framework.

The course ran from 1 June to 9 September 2025.

The program was designed for new recruits joining MACL's Estate Security Service. MACL said the course forms part of a wider effort to strengthen safety and security for passengers travelling through Velana International Airport (VIA).
