The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) collected MVR 2.69 billion in revenue in September 2026, exceeding its forecast by 12.7%, although collections were 10.7% lower than the same month last year. USD revenue collections amounted to USD 126.81 million.
MIRA attributed the year-on-year decline mainly to lower collections from lease period extension fees, after September 2025 included a significant one-off payment, as well as lower General Sector GST dues collections.
GST was the largest contributor to total revenue during the month, accounting for 46.8% or MVR 1.26 billion. Tourism Land Rent contributed MVR 424 million, followed by Income Tax at MVR 213 million, Green Tax at MVR 202 million, Airport Development Fee at MVR 177 million and Departure Tax at MVR 173 million.
MIRA said higher-than-forecast collections were supported by stronger Tourism Sector GST revenue following higher-than-projected tourist arrivals in August, as well as increased Tourism Land Rent collections. Payments relating to past deadlines accounted for 15.8% of revenue collected during September.
The report also shows that total revenue collected from January to September 2026 reached MVR 27.82 billion, compared with MVR 25.56 billion during the same period in 2025.
