Maldivian seeks up to two Airbus A220-300 aircraft for international routes

Maldivian is seeking proposals to lease up to two Airbus A220-300 aircraft as part of plans to modernise the fleet used for its regional international services.

Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL), which operates the national carrier, has invited aircraft owners, operators, lessors, commercial banks and financial institutions to submit proposals for the operating lease. Bidders can offer either one or two aircraft.

IASL has selected the Airbus A220 as the successor to the Airbus A320, which has been used as the backbone of Maldivian’s regional network since 2012. The airline currently operates an Airbus A320-214 on services to destinations in India and Bangladesh, while its Airbus A330-200 is used for long-haul operations.

The preferred delivery schedule is for the first A220-300 to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2027 and the second in the first quarter of 2028. IASL is seeking an operating lease of between six and 12 years.

The airline’s preferred configuration includes at least eight Business Class seats, with a preferred layout of eight Business Class and 130 Economy Class seats. IASL is also seeking aircraft equipped with inflight entertainment and internet connectivity.

Proposals must be submitted by 11:59 pm on 28 October 2026, while clarification requests can be submitted until 2:00 pm on 15 October.
