Green Tax collections in August 2019 reach over MVR72.1m

The Green Tax collections for the month of August 2019 reached MVR72,087,857.92 in total according to the statistics from Maldives Ministry of Finance.

The total collections from city hotels and guesthouses, as Green Tax, reached MVR71,192,995.36 while from liveaboards and vessels a collection of MVR894,862.56 was generated.

The highest in Green Tax collections was made from Kaafu atoll at a total of MVR25,843,407.62 given that several islands in the atoll are prominent guesthouse destinations apart from several resort properties – such as Maafushi, Dhiffushi, Thulusdhoo and Himmafushi.

Alif Dhaal atoll comes in second as the highest with Green Tax collections at MVR11,649,332.43.

Baa atoll remains the third highest with regards to Green Tax collections, reaching MVR6,918,815.06 in total whereas Alif Alif atolls collection was the fourth highest at MVR5,661,004.71 while Lhaviyani came in a close fifth spot with collections reaching MVR5,073,445.32 in total.

The collections from Green Tax comes under the Green Fund, through which several infrastructural and developmental projects are carried out across the country.

As of August 2019, a total of MVR27,130,099.83 was expended from the Green Fund to inject for local developmental projects.
