Saudi Ambassador Affirms Stronger Maldives Ties, Signals Expansion into New Sectors

The Saudi Ambassador to the Maldives, Yahya Hassan Al-Qahtani, has said relations between Saudi Arabia and the Maldives have grown stronger than ever, with the Kingdom prepared to expand cooperation into new areas for the mutual benefit of both nations.

Speaking at a ceremony held at the Saudi Embassy to mark Saudi Founding Day on Sunday night, the Ambassador emphasized that Saudi Arabia’s foreign policy continues to prioritize responsibility, non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and the promotion of bilateral relations based on equality.

The Ambassador reiterated that Saudi Arabia remains committed to upholding Islamic values, maintaining regional stability, and serving the wider Islamic world with a strong sense of responsibility. He noted that the Kingdom’s global influence, particularly in the energy sector and sustainable development, reflects its standing as one of the world’s most powerful economies.

Highlighting the Kingdom’s transformation agenda, Al-Qahtani said Saudi Vision 2030 places significant focus on economic diversification, innovation, empowering citizens, and building strong international partnerships. He added that these priorities create new opportunities for cooperation with partner countries including the Maldives.

According to the Ambassador, the celebration of Saudi Founding Day in the Maldives symbolizes the deep and strengthening bond between the two nations. He stressed that the Maldives remains an important partner for Saudi Arabia.

“The friendly relationship we share with the Maldives is of great importance to us. I assure you that Saudi Arabia will remain committed to expanding this cooperation into further areas for the mutual benefit and prosperity of both countries,” the Ambassador said.

Saudi Founding Day commemorates the establishment of the first Saudi state and is observed annually on February 22. The ceremony in Malé was attended by senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and invited guests, including Chief Justice Uz. Abdul Ghanee Mohamed
