Maldives Food and Drug Authority has advised the public not to use products from the German baby food brand HiPP following reports of contamination involving rodenticide.
The warning comes after an investigation in Austria found traces of rat poison in a jar of the product, prompting recalls in the Austrian market.
Authorities in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia have seized similar products for investigation.
The MFDA stated that although the product is not registered in the Maldives, it may have been imported for personal use.
As a precautionary measure, the authority has urged the public not to import, sell or consume any products from the brand.
According to reports, Austrian police suspect the contamination may be linked to an act of extortion or intimidation, rather than a manufacturing defect.
The advisory highlights the importance of regulatory oversight and consumer awareness, particularly in cases involving imported food products.
